Following the example of our friends at Camp Twin Lakes, Camp Rise Above takes camp to the children who are in the hospital. Since they’re unable to come to us, we bring the camp to them by transforming a facility to summer camp for a day within the hospital.
Camp Rise Above offers hospitalized children the chance to be normal, fun-loving children right where they are. Using simple decorations, props and health-appropriate activities, volunteer counselors transform lobbies, playrooms, hallways and even hospital rooms into natural settings and provide everything including fishing, arts and crafts, singing and “camping” in a tent.
Camp Rise Above made its debut at the Children’s Hospital of the Medical University of South Carolina where it magically appears several times each year. In 2015, Camp Rise Above went on the road, taking camp to children in hospitals across the state, and we look forward to continue serving more children throughout the region!
Throughout the year we offer more than 10 daycamps at children’s hospitals around the state, including MUSC Children’s Hospital, Palmetto Health Richland Children’s Hospital, Greenville Children’s Hospital, and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. We plan to add more locations in 2017. Check out our calendar for dates of upcoming camps!
