So you want to be a summer counselor? We don’t blame you – our volunteer counselors have a blast with our campers every summer! Below are some answers to common questions from first-time volunteers, but you can always email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 843.300.9100 with any questions you have. We hope to see you this summer!
When is camp?
Our 2017 camps begin June 15 and run through July 14. Each camp session is two days long. You can see the full list of sessions here.
Can I volunteer at only one session?
Of course! We have counselors that volunteer at one session, two sessions, and some that volunteer at all of them. We welcome any time that you can give to these great children. We do request that counselors commit to BOTH days of each session they volunteer for so they can be paired with the same child both days.
Do you have any one-day volunteer opportunities in the summer?
We do! We need volunteers to run arts and crafts, lunch, and other needs. If you are interested in learning more about these jobs, email Erin at the address above.
What is the application process for volunteer counselors?
Volunteers complete the Counselor Packet 2017, then email or mail it in with $18.50 to cover the cost of a background check (this fee is waived for current students). After your application is received, first time volunteers will undergo a phone interview and give two references. All volunteers who are approved will be required to attend an orientation session before camp to go over safety, medical, and camper information.
How old do I need to be to volunteer?
We require our counselors to be 18 years old and up. In 2017, we will be accepting a very limited number of counselors in training, ages 16 and 17. To learn more about being a CIT, please email Erin at the address above.
